Portland / Weymouth, England (Port #1) Aug 31/2014

We boarded the ship in Dover, England and all went smoothly.  The embarkation process was very quick and our room is small but cozy.

Our friends from Australia have the Neptune Suite which is much larger than ours and they have a really nice balcony so when we left port, we celebrated with Champagne on their private deck.

Brian was nervous looking over the balcony!

The town of Dover and the “white cliffs” as we sailed away.

We had a really nice supper last night with a starter of Scallops and main course of Prime Rib.  It was delicious!  I wasn’t going to get dessert but then saw the “Crème Brulee” option and I couldn’t resist.  So far we are very impressed with the food.

We finally had a good night’s sleep last night without waking at 4:00; we actually slept through until 7:00 this morning.  By the time we went for breakfast, the ship was now in the Port of Portland/Weymouth.  After breakfast, we boarded a shuttle bus that took us into Weymouth.  Weymouth is a really nice little coastal town and has a lovely little beach area and nice shops.  We spent our morning wandering along the beach and looking at the shops and then stopped for “Fish and Chips” before heading back to the ship and just relaxing for the afternoon. Here are a few pictures I took today.

This is for my dad’s benefit – he used to work for Wall’s Ice Cream when we lived in England!

This is the little town of Weymouth – a canal that goes through it.

Walking along the beach – we saw people doing “Tai Chi” in the water!

Many people have dogs here and even at the shops, they have “Dog Parking” while they wait for their owners to finish shopping.  They even had a bowl of water for them there as well.  It always amazes me how well the European people cater to their animals. Timmie would love it here!

We stopped for English Fish and Chips on our way back to the ship!

It was a very relaxing day today wandering around town for a couple of hours, perfectly blue sky and sunny although there was a cool breeze. The temperature was about 19 degree centigrade.

Roseleigh and I attended “Afternoon tea” on the ship this afternoon and it was lovely.  Nice cup of tea with little sandwiches, scones and cakes!  Brian went to the gym while I was there as he is not too interested in afternoon tea!  We are going to the show-room tonight to see a show called “Psyched” which is a man who is a mentalist.  I’m not exactly sure what he does but I told Brian we are not sitting close to the stage in case he hypnotizes people and I don’t want to be one!

Tomorrow we are at sea and then port in A-Coruna Spain on Tuesday. I will update again by Wednesday.
